Development of the Coastal Zone Management Program (CAMP) for Bosnia and Herzegovina has started
05.03.2021

On Friday, 5 March 2021 the first working meeting on the topic of sub-activity no. 5 “Sustainable tourism: in the coastal area and hinterland” was held with the aim of preparing a report entitled “Strategic directions of sustainable tourism development of the Municipality of Neum” within the project of developing the Coastal Zone Management Program (CAMP) for Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The meeting, along with the Mayor Dragan Jurković, was attended by: President of the Municipal Council of Neum Daniela Matić, Andrija Krešić – Director of the Tourist Board of HNŽ, Ankica Bogdanović – Head of the Tourist Office of Neum, Ph.D. Zoran Klarić – consultant, Ph.D. Damir Krešić – director of the Institute of Tourism from Zagreb, representatives of tourism and representatives of the municipality of Neum, and the national coordinator of the “CAMP B&H” project Josip Njavro.
After the introductory remarks of the project coordinator and the greetings of the Mayor of Neum, the consultant dr.sc. Zoran Klarić (Institute for Tourism, Zagreb) introduced the participants to the project task and planned activities within sub-activity no. 5 “Sustainable tourism: in the coastal area and hinterland”, which aim to expand tourism and hospitality to the entire municipality of Neum with the aim of encouraging economic development of inland settlements and reducing pressure on the coast during the main tourist season. The meeting was very constructive and meaningful, and fully justified the expectations, because there was a very good discussion on tourism potential in the “hinterland of Neum” in relation to trends in the global tourism market, and it was stated that there are excellent foundations for rural development, cultural, sports-recreational and congress tourism, which will be further analyzed in further steps and based on that, the strategic directions of development will be defined.
It is also important to note that the parties to the Barcelona Convention at their regular, 19th meeting held from 9 to 12 February 2016 in Athens (Greece), based on a request submitted by the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), made a decision on the development of the Coastal Zone Management Program (CAMP) for Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Then, for this Project, from January 2017 to July 2018, a Feasibility Study (SI) was prepared, which was finally adopted by the Council of Ministers in May 2020, after which on June 29, 2020 an Agreement was signed regarding the project of developing the Coastal Zone Management Program (CAMP) for Bosnia and Herzegovina. The mentioned Agreement defines and presents the goals, structure and contents of the CAMP BiH program, as well as the implementation structures for the activities to be implemented within the Program. It should be noted that the implementation of the project, due to the pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV-02 virus and the introduced “measures”, is slow and all previous project activities have been carried out through an online communication platform.
The Project (including comprehensive definition and implementation) is expected to run from July 2020 to July 2022, while the implementation of post-project activities is planned for the period 2022-2024.
